Color Etude 20:17 (for Tom) — trumpet and piano (2016)

duration 5’ (flexible)

The title of this work, Color Etude 20:17, refers to a series of musical sketches I created based on the color of the sky at certain times of day. At the time, Tom Bergeron and I were in a music writing group called “De Snakes” run by Hamilton Berry where we all encouraged each other two send in sketches every couple of weeks for the group to hear / see. Tom was on tour in the Netherlands at the time, and mentioned that if anyone sent him pieces, he would premiere them on tour. The piece is dedicated to him for this generosity and encouragement.

World premiere July 2016 in Amsterdam, Netherlands by Thomas Bergeron and Chris Doyle.
US premiere January 22, 2023 at University of Hawaiʻi — Mānoa by JoAnn Lamolino and Tommy Yee.
