MMIP — for flexible instrumentation (2024)
Commissioned by ARCO Collaborative
MMIP is an acronym for Missing & Murdered Indigenous People (alongside MMIW / MMIWR for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Relatives). In solidarity with our Missing & Murdered Indigenous cousins around the world.
WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers/listeners are warned that the work may contain spoken names of deceased persons. The intention of the work is that names are to be spoken from a national resource for missing and murdered indigenous peoples, which is meant to “generate tips from the public about active cases that may help law enforcement give closure to victim’s families.” Communities may choose to perform the piece with an alternative resource or silence.
MMIP premiered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on November 16, 2024, as part of the Sounds of US Festival
