say it in your heart, say it when you sleep (2023)

The pitch content in say it in your heart, say it in your sleep is drawn from Lili‘uokalani’s song, E ku‘u Ho‘ōla. “Ho‘ōla” means “to give life, to revive, to heal” in ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i, while “ea” means “sovereignty” or “life” (EA is a repeated gesture throughout the piece). The title honors scholar and activist Haunani Kay Trask, and is a quote from her most famous speech.
